The Enneagram

The Enneagram

The Enneagram is related to the T.E.A. Model. Amongst other things, it can be used as personality typing tool.

There are three Triads (Heart, Head and Gut) each with three Types. Each of the Triads has a major issue that concerned them during childhood and took up a lot of their energy.

The Heart Types were concerned about the amount of Attention that they were getting from others. They use their feelings and emotions more than the other types.

The Head Types were concerned about whether or not they were Secure and used their thinking to keep themselves safe.

The Gut Types were concerned about whether or not they were Autonomous and used their instincts to let them know if others are trying to control them.

Within each of the Triads there are three ways of getting Attention, Security and Autonomy by Demanding, Earning and Withdrawing. This gives us the nine personality types of the Enneagram.

Twos earn attention
Threes demand attention
Fours withdraw to get attention

Fives withdraw to get security
Sixes earn security
Sevens demand security

Eights demand autonomy
Nines withdraw to get autonomy
Ones earn autonomy
