The Target Model
This model builds on the elements of The T.E.A. Model.
Emotional State – making sure that you in the most appropriate state for the meeting; for example, feeling motivated yourself if you want to motivate others
Rapport –building up and maintaining the relationship with the other(s).
Information Gathering – making sure that you know enough about the situation to make a decision about what to do.
Outcome Setting – deciding and agreeing what it is that you both need to do.
The Task – knowing what it is that you are going to do with agreed deadlines.
Ecology –through all of this and around all of this constantly checking out the consequences of any actions that any of you may take, looking ahead in time and also checking against other contexts.
Ideally, you would have all of this in place before you start a meeting but you can also use it as a process for reviewing and checking where you may have gone awry. You can also use the model remedially if you get stuck during a meeting; just check where you currently are in the process and then take a step back.
