The Three Centres The Three Centres

This model builds on The T.E.A Model in recognising that although we all of us have access to all three parts of the model, because of The Magic Number Seven Plus Or Minus Two we cannot pay attention to each element equally. We make choices and these have a profound effect on our personality.

Main Concern As A Child

The main concern for each person differs depending on which element of the T.E.A. they favour:

For Heart People (Emotions) it is whether they are getting enough attention.

For Head People (Thoughts), it is whether they are safe.

For Gut People (Actions), it is whether they are autonomous.

Decision Making

The decision making process also varies:

Heart People use their emotions and values as their guide and may drop a totally logical decision if it clashes with their feelings, and new information will not get them to change their minds.

Head People use logic and information as their guide drawing up an internal list of pros and cons until they have enough to make a decision, and they are happy to change their minds if new information comes in.

Gut People just “know” what is right and what they need to do; it is sometimes hard for them to logically explain why and within organisations they often have to post-rationalise their decisions for others.
